Wine Regions

France is blessed with superb conditions for growing grapes and most of our customers appreciate a glass in the evening after a day in the saddle! A number of our tours visit areas known throughout the world for their wines, so if you are a lover of the fermented grape, look no further than the following tours which combine cycling with wine!

We make a point of trying to drink the local wines wherever possible on our tours - on some evenings, you can even look out over the vines the wine has come from, and past which you cycles a couple of hours earlier. Fantastic!

Bordeaux: Our gentle Bordeaux Superieur route tours of the famous Bordeaux vineyards passing many famous wineries, departing from the rejuvenated city of Bordeaux and making a circular route through the Medoc before crossing over to the other side of the river and enjoying the Graves and then St Emilion. Lastly we cycle through the renowned Sauternes vineyards before returning to Bordeaux.

The Loire Valley: Famous throughout the world for its amazing fairy tale castles built at the height of the Renaissance, the Loire Valley is ideal cycling tour country due to its gentle terrain. It is also the producer of some very fine wines at keen prices, so is well worth a visit. Our Loire Valley Classic tour passes through some famous areas such as Saumur and Chinon - indeed, some of the prettiest vineyard cycling in France can be had on the quiet lanes through the Saumur-Champigny vines.

Provence / Cotes du Rhone: In the south east of France is a huge wine producing area benefitting from a hot climate making spicy and powerful wines. Our Provence & Luberon ride passes many many hectares of vines, including the famous Chateauneuf du Pape. Cycling in the shadow of Mont Ventoux you will see that there is even an 'appellation' for this famous mountain. 

Alsace: Often overlooked but everyone who goes there loves it. Cycling in Alsace is a mixture of old-world charm and half timbered houses in pretty 'cuckoo clock' villages. The rows of vines are tall and straight, and produce some superb white wines. The cycling in Alsace is demanding at times but there are wonderful views and hearty food to compensate. Our Alsace and the Vosges tour delivers all this and more.

For the real cycling connoisseur, we suggest our Calais to Nice trip which passes through a veritable wine list of regions, starting with Champagne, then Burgundy, the Cote Chalonnaise, Cotes du Rhone including the Cote Roti and finally Provence.
